The idea of adding an iron and wicker pergola to extend the living area into the rear garden was the stroke of genius that accomplished this metamorphosis with ease.
While it might seem like a revamped and rejuvenated old farmhouse from the outside the residence is in fact a brand new structure that was intentionally designed to bring some old world charm indoors.
Features such as the checker board wall paneling next to the stairs that contains cutouts for the wine collection of the homeowners the custom-crafted sliding door next to the stairs with a paint-drip feature hexagonal wall tiles in the bedroom and a gorgeous plant screen add texture pattern and uniqueness to various spaces of the residence. It is such ingenious refined touches that truly transform this Auckland retreat!
The exterior of the home is clad in a wonderful blend of stone wood concrete and glass while the pool and garden give it a relaxing natural vibe. This seamless alchemy of contrasting textures gives the Garden House its trademark rustic modern look.
The focal point of the house is most obviously the pool area and the outdoor lounge that comes with a dedicated kitchen barbeque zone and an Asian-style pergola that keeps the sun away on hot sultry days. The entire space is designed to create a ‘holiday resort’ vibe and the vivacious color of the pool tiles definitely accentuates this appeal.
While the rear of the cottage opens up onto a wooden deck next to the lake the street façade still offers ample privacy. The style of the renovation was based on woodsy mountain homes in Colorado and some of the wooden finishes were even brought in to achieve this unique look indoors.
Bring an air of freshness and openness the box-like design of the contemporary addition drew inspiration from shipping container homes and contains the new living area four bedrooms and a lovely study.
